Every company above passed our published vetting standard (how we choose) . The 18 we assessed that did not pass are not listed here.

What the reviews actually say

Across the 11 companies on this list the review picture is strong, with one clear outlier. Ten of the 11 hold Google averages of 4.6 or above. On the corpora we counted star by star, 1,625 Google reviews across ten firms and 1,235 Trustpilot reviews with fully published distributions, 109 reviews sit at one or two stars, just under 4 in every 100. Santa Fe Relocation is the exception. 28 of its 70 Google reviews sit at one or two stars and the profile averages 3.3, which is why it carries a check-before-booking verdict despite BAR and FIDI membership. Where the strong firms collect criticism it is usually about how a quote was structured or how long a job ran, and the best of them answer it in public. London House Removals replied to every review we read on both platforms, and Ward Thomas answered all 100 of the newest Google reviews in our sweep. Basis: the 11 company listings, read end to end between 22 August and 17 October 2026, figures taken from the platform distributions documented on each listing.

Moving in London

Parking outside your door

Most London moves start with a parking problem. Most streets sit inside a controlled parking zone, and a removal lorry standing outside your door usually needs a suspension or a reserved bay from the council that runs your street. Notice periods and fees are set borough by borough. Several councils want two weeks or more of notice, and once the daily fee and the administration charge are added the total often runs into three figures. If your street is a red route, the application goes to Transport for London rather than the borough and takes longer, so give your removal company the postcode early. A firm that asks about parking at the quote stage is doing its job. One that turns up and hopes is not.

Charges your removal company drives through

The Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every London borough. Vehicles that miss the emissions standard pay £12.50 a day, and that bill lands on whoever runs the van. The Congestion Charge covers the central zone at £18 a day between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and from 12pm to 6pm at weekends and bank holidays (Transport for London rates, checked 22 October 2026). A compliant operator prices these into the quote, so ask whether the price already includes them. If one quote comes in suspiciously cheap, this is one of the first places the difference hides.

Crossing the river

Rotherhithe Tunnel is too narrow for most removal lorries, which leaves east London with the Woolwich Ferry, the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels, and the Dartford Crossing further out. A charge applies at the tunnels between 6am and 10pm, and the Dartford Crossing charges in both directions. That geography is why a move from Barking to Greenwich is not the short hop the map suggests for a loaded lorry, and why crews that know the city plan the crossing before the day, not during it.

Flats, mansion blocks and lift bookings

In a flat, the building matters as much as the boxes. Mansion blocks and newer developments often need the service lift booked in advance through the managing agent, with a time slot and sometimes a deposit, and council and housing association blocks have their own move day rules. Book the lift before moving day, not on it, because when the lift is out of order that morning someone walks the sofa down eight flights. Ask any company you shortlist what its plan is for upper floors and long carries from the van.

Terraces, conservation areas and narrow stairs

Victorian and Georgian terraces were not built with wardrobes in mind. Tight staircases with winders, sash windows that come out for large items and doorways too narrow for a three seater are weekly work for a good London crew, and hoist jobs are routine in places like Kensington, Hampstead and Chelsea. Conservation area rules can also restrict where a lorry may stand. This is exactly what the survey is for. A company that measures access before quoting is protecting you from a surcharge on the day.

When to book

London moves cluster at the end of the month, on Fridays and through the school holidays, and the good firms fill those slots first. Four to six weeks of notice is comfortable for most moves, and month ends and August should be booked earlier still. London traffic has its own opinion about your schedule too, so a realistic quote builds in time for the road, not just the loading.

FAQs

How did you pick the best removal companies in London?

The same published standard for every firm. Identity checks on who actually trades under the name, drawn from the publicly visible facts, a read of the full review corpus on Google and Trustpilot including every complaint, and a read of the insurance figures, labelled as advertised where nothing outside confirms them. No company can pay to appear here.

How many London removal companies did you assess?

29 firms serving Greater London were assessed in this pass, checked 22 October 2026. 11 made the list. A further 7 scored close to the line but need extra checks before we would recommend them, and the rest fell short of the standard outright.

What do the RD verdicts mean?

Book with confidence means the company cleared every part of our check with nothing unresolved. Check before booking means we found something you should ask about, such as a weak spot in complaint handling, and the listing says exactly what. Anything weaker does not appear on this list.

Is this ranking for sale?

No. The order comes from our own score across the checks, and no placement, position or verdict can be bought. In a city where a company could not clear the standard, the list would stay empty rather than get padded.

Do these companies cover my part of London?

Coverage differs firm by firm and each listing shows the patch we verified, from single borough specialists to crews that work all of Greater London and the home counties. Most London firms will travel, but a Walthamstow crew charging by the hour prices a Richmond job differently, so it pays to start with firms already working near you.

Can I get quotes without reading all of this?

Yes. Use the quote button and tell us about the move. We pass it to up to 2 of the verified companies above and they come back to you with quotes. Your details are never sold on to anyone else.
